Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, has refuted rumours that individuals can pay their way onto the list of recipients for government flats.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office today, the Minister stressed that the allocation process is transparent and based solely on eligibility criteria. He said there is no possibility for anyone to be included in the list through payment or influence, and urged the public not to engage with individuals making such claims.

Minister Dr Muththalib also clarified that no one has been added to the flat recipient list announced by the previous administration on 15 November 2023. However, those who did not meet the eligibility requirements have been excluded from the final list.

He further noted that while some recipients under the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme have also benefited from other government housing projects, existing laws currently prevent the removal of such names from the list.
