Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced that the biometrics of 27,773 expatriates, employed under 3,942 registered employers, have not yet been updated.
In a statement released today, the Ministry of Homeland Security reminded all employers registered with the Expat Online System to update the biometric information of any expatriate workers brought into the Maldives by 15 October.
The Ministry warned that action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the requirement. Expatriates who do not complete their biometric registration without a valid reason will face penalties, while employers may be fined MVR 50,000 under the Immigration Act. Additional action may also be taken under the Employment Act for non-compliance.
The Ministry urged employers to ensure timely updates to avoid legal consequences and to support efforts to maintain accurate records of expatriate workers in the country.
For further information, employers may contact the Department of Homeland Security by calling 1458 or 7690228, or by emailing [email protected].
