The government has selected 50 individuals to perform the Hajj pilgrimage in 1447 as part of its initiative to send poor pilgrims to Hajj during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s term.

According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, an additional 25 people have been chosen as reserves in case selected individuals are unable to attend. The ministry stated that the draw was conducted using the list of poor individuals registered at Zakat House, which was last reviewed in December 2024.

There are currently 376 people on the Zakat House list who have not yet performed Hajj. The government aims to ensure that all of them will have the opportunity to perform the pilgrimage during President Muizzu’s current term.

Fulfilling one of the President’s key pledges, the initiative plans to send 1,000 poor pilgrims to Hajj over the course of his tenure. A total of 50 pilgrims were sent in both 1445 and 1446 under the same programme.
