Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson and former Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has been summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for questioning.

Fayyaz announced on X that he had received a summons from the ACC, sharing a photo of the document. The chit states that he is being questioned “for the benefit of the state” regarding his involvement in the 2019 Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee’s decision to grant compensation to Swift Engineering Pvt Ltd. The document further alleges that he misused his official position to provide undue benefit to the company.

He is scheduled to appear before the ACC at 9:30 a.m. on 13 November.

Fayyaz has rejected the allegations and maintained that he did not act against the interests of the state. He expressed concern about the fairness of the investigation and accused the current administration of exerting political influence over independent institutions. He stated that the government under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has weakened state systems and said that constitutional changes are needed to restore institutional independence.

Fayyaz reaffirmed his commitment to promoting democracy and protecting the fundamental rights of Maldivians, adding that the opposition would continue its efforts despite attempts at intimidation.
