Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that discussions are underway to prevent those holding positions in the Islamic Ministry from actively participating in the operation of their own Umrah companies.

In a Facebook post last night, Shaheem said that as the Ministry is the regulatory body for Umrah companies in the Maldives, they are considering ways to prevent those in Ministry positions from being actively involved in running their own Umrah companies.

Currently, some individuals in positions at the Ministry do operate Umrah companies.

Recently, there have been cases of people absconding after collecting money for Umrah trips. The Ministry has taken action against such parties.
