Parliament has approved the appointment of Ibrahim Afeef and Shaufa Ibrahim as members of the Tax Appeal Tribunal.

The appointments follow an evaluation by the Judiciary Committee, which assessed candidates forwarded by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Mahaz Ali Zahir, a former Supreme Court received the highest score of 97 percent in the interviews but was not approved by parliament. Only four MPs voted in favour of his appointment, while 41 voted against.

Ibrahim Afeef scored 91 percent and Shaufa Ibrahim 83 percent in the committee’s assessment. Both received overwhelming support in parliament, with 53 MPs voting for Afeef and 54 MPs supporting Shaufa.

The Judiciary Committee had recommended appointing candidates who scored above 75 percent, and the two approved members were the highest-ranking nominees after Mahaz.
