Home Minister Ali Ihsaan has stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of negligence by police officers in handling the case of Hawwa Yumn (21), who fell onto the roof of H. Mitaz on the morning of May 18 this year.
Minister Ali Ihsaan made this statement while answering a question posed by MDP Member for Galolhu North Constituency, Mohamed Ibrahim, during today's parliamentary session.
The member asked whether any action had been taken against any police officers in light of the Presidential Commission's report on Hawwa Yumn Rasheed's case, which highlighted police negligence and recommended measures be taken.
In his written response, the Minister said that the Police Professional Standards Command has initiated an investigation to determine the extent of individual police officers' negligence in the events following the report of Yumn's fall.
He added that the process of questioning relevant parties is ongoing, and efforts are being made to conclude the investigation as soon as possible.
The Minister also mentioned that the police have reviewed the procedures of their Communication Center and familiarized staff with the new SOP in relation to this case. He further stated that work is underway to implement the recommendations of the Presidential Commission.
The report compiled by the Presidential Commission had stated that the police acted negligently in Yumnnews's case and recommended that the matter of negligent employees be investigated and appropriate action be taken.
