President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 67 hectares of land will be reclaimed from Maafarulhu within 10 months, marking a major step in the government’s development plans for Mahibadhoo.
The dredging and reclamation works, contracted to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), have officially commenced as part of the President’s ongoing atoll visits. The reclaimed land will be handed over to the people of Mahibadhoo upon completion.
During a function held in Mahibadhoo, the President assured residents that the project would progress rapidly and pave the way for the next stages of development. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing housing challenges in the area, with a project to construct 150 housing units set to begin next year.
The Maafarulhu land reclamation initiative reflects the administration’s broader efforts to accelerate infrastructure development and expand opportunities across the Maldives.
