Passport and national ID card services have now been established in all atolls of the Maldives, fulfilling a key pledge by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to make these essential services accessible across the country.

The milestone was marked at a special ceremony held in Alifu Dhaalu Mahibadhoo on Wednesday night, as part of the President’s ongoing visit to Lhaviyani Atoll. During the event, President Dr Muizzu was presented with a commemorative plaque by Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihsaan to celebrate the completion of the nationwide rollout.

The initiative to expand passport and ID issuance services began on 16 November 2024, under the administration’s efforts to decentralise public services and bring government facilities closer to citizens living in outer islands.
