Four members have been elected to the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMC) by default, following the closure of the nomination period announced by the Elections Commission (EC).

The EC had opened applications for the election on August 25, and confirmed that the deadline for submissions had now expired. Only four candidates applied for the four available positions, all of whom met the eligibility requirements. As a result, they were automatically elected to the Commission.

The newly elected members are Abdul Azeez Ibrahim, Zamath Ahmed Waheed, Simaha Naseem, and Hussain Sageef.

The EC declared their election in accordance with Regulation No. 2025/R-96 on electing members to the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission.

Hussain Sageef, one of the elected members, previously served as the President of the Maldives Media Council, which was dissolved under the new media law. He has also been serving as a member of the Broadcasting Commission since June.

The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission comprises three members appointed by Parliament and four members elected by media outlets.
