Two major projects have been launched in ADh. Fenfushi today to improve island services and community facilities.
The new waste management centre was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim, while Minister of Sports Abdulla Rafiu launched the project to build a new volleyball court. The ceremonies took place during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island as part of his tour of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
Officials from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Members of Parliament, and island council representatives also attended the events.
The new waste management centre will support Fenfushi’s 1,220 residents by improving waste collection and disposal on the island. The project includes building a waste segregation area, a guardhouse, and a rainwater drainage system, along with landscaping and office renovation works. MTCC will complete the project within 120 days at a cost of MVR 1.17 million.
The new volleyball court aims to give the community, especially young people, better access to sports facilities. The project includes a concrete court, boundary walls, and lighting, and will also be completed within 120 days at a cost of MVR 1.24 million.
Both projects are part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and quality of life across local islands.
