Health Minister Abdulla Nazim is scheduled to be questioned regarding the government’s decision to open optic stores.

The matter was raised by North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim, who submitted five questions to the government. Among them, he asked why the government chose to start the business directly rather than regulating Aasandha products, and the costs involved in running state-run optic stores.

The MP also sought clarification on the annual expenses of the venture, the research conducted into potential challenges for private businesses, and the findings of that research.

The government recently opened optic shops at IGMH, Hulhumalé Hospital, and several regional hospitals. Under the new scheme, Aasandha patients will be able to access MVR 2,000 worth of services starting from June.
