The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that a total of six individuals submitted applications to stand as candidates in the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission election by the deadline.

The EC opened the opportunity to contest in this election on the 25th of last month.

Under the newly enacted Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act, the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission consists of three members appointed by the People's Majlis and four members elected by media organizations.

The EC stated today that when the deadline for submitting candidacy forms expired at 14:00, a total of six individuals had submitted forms to contest in the election.

According to the EC, four individuals submitted forms for the positions representing broadcasters, of which three candidacies were accepted. One of the three accepted candidates has requested to withdraw their name.

The EC said that two individuals submitted forms for the positions representing other media, of which one candidacy was accepted.

The EC has announced that voting for the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission election is scheduled to take place in Malé from 09:00 to 16:00 on the coming Saturday.
