Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said the current administration has settled MVR 50 million owed to companies that had undertaken projects through the Islamic Ministry during the previous government.

According to the Minister, when President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assumed office in November 2023, a large number of payments to private businesses remained unsettled. This included MVR 30 million owed by the Islamic Ministry alone.

Dr Shaheem said that the entire MVR 50 million was cleared by the current administration last year.

President Dr Muizzu also reaffirmed in a post on X that all pending bills submitted to the government and state-owned companies would be paid in line with regulations. He noted that when the administration took office, the Maldivian economy was in a state of turmoil, but the government was committed to settling all dues.
