Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has successfully carried out the Maldives’ first endoscopic spine surgery.
The procedure, conducted by the hospital’s Department of Neurosurgery, uses a small tube through which cameras and surgical instruments are inserted, offering a less invasive alternative to traditional open surgeries.
The surgery was led by Dr Ali Niyaf, the Maldives’ first neurosurgeon, along with his team. In addition to the endoscopic spine surgery, the hospital also performed an occipitoservical fusion (OCF), marking another milestone in neurosurgical care in the country.
IGMH described the achievement as a significant step forward for neurosurgery services in the Maldives.
