After concluding its second session's recess, the People's Majlis will commence its sittings for the third session of this year tomorrow.
A Majlis member stated today that although a sitting of the People's Majlis is scheduled for tomorrow, according to the Majlis regulations, the third session will officially begin from the sixth of this month.
Although a Majlis sitting is scheduled for tomorrow, its agenda has not yet been announced.
To begin the debate on the "Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission" bill, which journalists had opposed, the second session of the Majlis, which was set to end on August 15th, was extended to the 21st of that month. However, due to heated debates on the bill, the Majlis concluded its second session and went on recess on August 19th.
Nevertheless, to pass the "Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission" bill and the "Public Referendum" bill, and for some other work, the Majlis held four extraordinary sittings during its recess in August and September.
The most important task for the upcoming third session of the Majlis will be the work on the state budget for the year 2026.
Additionally, there are also the bill to amend the Judges Act, the Trademark Bill, the bill to amend the Penal Code, the bill to amend the Tax Administration Act, the Zakat Bill, and the work of appointing members to several commissions.
