Spain’s experienced coach Luisma Hernández, who also manages Maziya Sports and Recreation Club, has said that the Maldives national football team will benefit from the return of strong teams to the league after a two-year break.
Maziya have won both of their league matches so far this season, continuing their winning momentum after lifting the FAM League Cup and Charity Shield earlier this year. They are set to face Buru Sports Club in their next match.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Hernández noted that several clubs have strengthened their squads and that competition in the league is expected to be fierce. He said there are four to six teams aiming for the title and competing until the very last moment, which he believes will help raise the standard of the national side.
The coach acknowledged that Maziya had lost some good players before the season began, but stressed that this had made other teams stronger. He described Buru Sports Club as a determined side that works hard until the end, and said their upcoming clash would be a difficult game.
Hernández also highlighted challenges for the national team, with many players facing breaks during the season. He added that he would not take risks with injured players and would continue to work with both young talents and foreign players.
