Coach of New Radiant Sports Club, Ali Suzain, has said that Maziya Sports and Recreation deserves praise for their efforts to revive football in the past few years.
He also expressed his delight at starting the league on a strong note as the competition resumed. New Radiant, who recently returned to the first division after Super United Sports (SUS) exited, have won both of their opening matches. The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) granted New Radiant a place in the top flight after reviewing several factors, and the team quickly moved to strengthen their squad and appoint Suzain as head coach.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Suzain, a former Maldives national team coach, said the team was ready to face the challenge despite coming up from the second division. He added that he never left football after his time with the national team. He said that he was ready to join New Radiant as coach when he received their proposal.
Suzain added that New Radiant playing in the first division brings positive experiences, highlighting that this is his 40th season at Galolhu Stadium.
Suzain said he has been able to guide the team in the direction he wanted and has seen positive signs in the last two games. He also acknowledged the strength of rival clubs this season.
“A lot of clubs are strong this year. I think there are seven strong teams in the league. I don’t think any of them will be laid back in their matches against New Radiant,” he noted.
He also said the resumption of the league has reignited supporter interest, with competition now fiercer than ever. Suzain welcomed the involvement of foreign coaches, saying their presence helps Maldivian coaches gain valuable experience.
