The first decompression chamber to be established outside Malé City has been officially opened in Guraidhoo, Thaa Atoll.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the new facility this morning during his visit to the island. Named the Senahiya Hyperbaric Centre, the chamber was donated by the Japanese government through the Maldives National Defence Force’s Senahiya Hospital.

Speaking at a gathering with Guraidhoo residents last night, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the importance of the chamber, noting that it will provide life-saving treatment for fishermen and divers affected by decompression sickness. He also stated that the facility could be used for oxygen therapy and other medical treatments.

The President added that the Government is working to establish similar decompression chambers in other parts of the country, including Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Alifu Alifu Atoll Rasdhoo, and Thinadhoo City. Additional chambers will also be set up in Malé and Villimalé.
