President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Guraidhoo Airport will be opened on 26 July 2027, with the project scheduled for completion within 22 months.
The agreement for the airport project was signed in Guraidhoo during the President’s visit to Thaa Atoll. The development has been awarded to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). President Dr Muizzu confirmed that land reclamation for the project has already been completed.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, the President described the airport as a key economic and infrastructural resource that would serve as a gateway for growth in the region.
In addition to the airport, the President revealed that work on the Guraidhoo harbour and the construction of 100 housing units will begin next year.
