The land reclamation and harbor development project for Th. Veymandoo has been awarded to MTCC today.
During a ceremony held tonight in Veymandoo, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's tour of Th. Atoll islands, the agreements for these two projects were signed. MTCC's Managing Director Ahmed Saudee signed on behalf of the company, while Minister Dr. Abdullah Muttalib signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction.
MTCC stated that upon completion of the land reclamation project in Veymandoo, which has a population of 1,270 people facing housing shortages, additional space will be available for land allocation and industrial activities. They also mentioned that the project will bring numerous economic and social benefits to the island.
MTCC added that the completion of the harbor development project will resolve the difficulties in accessing the island and the limited harbor space, leading to social and economic progress for the residents.
The land reclamation project includes reclaiming 15.40 hectares of land, constructing 819 meters of revetment, and 220 meters of groyne. This project, valued at MVR 113.19 million, is to be completed within 270 days.
The harbor development project involves dredging 55,255 cubic meters, constructing 25 meters of revetment, repairing 236 meters of existing breakwater, building 210 meters of new breakwater, constructing a 260-meter long and 2-meter wide bridge, laying 2,480 meters of pavement, and installing harbor lights. This project, valued at MVR 53 million, is to be completed within 540 days.
