Former national team goalkeeper Mauroof Ahmed (Maattey) has been appointed Chairman of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Awards Committee.
The FAM Awards, last presented in 2018, are being reintroduced this year after a long pause. At the time, the awards were given in collaboration with Maldives Football. Since then, no dedicated awards ceremony has been held, though Ahmed Rizuvan of Club Eagles was named Best Footballer at the Maldives Sports Awards 2022, organised by the Ministry of Sports.
The revived FAM Awards will feature several categories, including Best Footballer, Best Football Coach, Best Football Club, Best Under-21 Footballer, Best Foreign Footballer, Golden Boot (top scorer), Golden Glove (Best Goalkeeper), Best Referees, Best Female Footballer, Best Futsal Player, Best Goals, and Supporters’ Favourite Player.
Alongside Mauroof, Abdul Hamid Abdul Gafoor has been appointed Deputy Chairperson of the committee. Both have an academic background in sports. Other members of the committee include Mohamed Shaheeb, former referee Ahmed Abeer Ismail, and the coach of the national football team.
