President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a second round of loans for installing Refrigerated Sea Water (RSW) systems will open ahead of this year’s Fishermen’s Day. He made the announcement while speaking to residents of Th. Hirilandhoo during his tour of the atoll.
The President noted that Hirilandhoo residents had received a relatively higher share of loans in the first round and said 200 more loan opportunities would be offered in the second. He also confirmed that a cold storage facility for the island would be included in next year’s budget, with construction starting in January.
President Dr Muizzu assured that land would be reclaimed for industrial use on the island and incorporated into a wider development plan.
Several projects were also inaugurated today, including roadworks, a new Council Secretariat, and the groundbreaking of a mosque and a fitness and recreation centre. An agreement was signed for a harbour upgrade, while the President also assured that the new school building would be completed in time for the next academic year. He added that a football ground would be developed next year.
