President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the farmers of Kandoodhoo in Thaa Atoll that Government imports of chillies through the State Trading Organisation (STO) will not harm their livelihoods.
Speaking to the people of Kandoodhoo during his tour of islands in Thaa Atoll, the President recognised the island’s importance as a leading agricultural hub. He noted that Kandoodhoo farmers dominate the supply of chillies to the Malé market and stressed that their businesses would be safeguarded.
The President explained that while STO imports 23 essential items for sale in the Maldives, arrangements would be made to ensure Kandoodhoo farmers continue to benefit. He confirmed that STO would purchase chillies from the island’s farmers at fair prices in a manner that supports their income.
