President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a 50-unit housing project will be launched in M. Madifushi in 2026.
He made the announcement while addressing the community during his ongoing tour of inhabited islands across four atolls. Emphasising that home ownership is a top government priority, the President explained that the project would either take the form of a single housing scheme in one location or individual units built on residents’ own plots, depending on community preference.
Alongside the housing announcement, several new initiatives were inaugurated on the island today. These include the groundbreaking of a new school building, a Fitness and Recreation Centre, an extension to the Health Centre, and the commencement of road development to modern standards.
The President assured residents that each of these projects would progress in the near future. He also highlighted that the island’s ongoing ice plant project is nearing completion, and confirmed that a police vehicle will be provided before the end of this year.
During the visit, Th. Ufuriyaa and Th. Kolhufushi were formally incorporated under Th. Madifushi’s jurisdiction. The Government Gazette published the revised administrative chart reflecting this change on 18 September.
President Dr Muizzu reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting the happiness and well-being of residents, while also advancing projects to meet the future needs of Madifushi, Ufuriyaa, and Kolhufushi.
