President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that practical work on the Buruni harbour development will commence without delay. He gave the assurance while meeting with residents and community leaders of Th. Buruni, during his ongoing tour of four atolls.
At the meeting, representatives from the Island Council, local institutions, and the community shared proposals and concerns about the island’s key development priorities.
The President announced that a housing scheme with 30 units will be included in the 2026 state budget. He also revealed that the shore protection project is being redesigned to include a jetty for reef fishing, responding to the aspirations of the island’s youth. He added that upcoming projects in infrastructure, education, health, and housing will be carried out with full consideration of residents’ needs.
In addition, an agreement was signed at the meeting with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop an outdoor volleyball court on the island.
Held at Buruni School, the meeting also gave residents the chance to voice their views directly to the President, while ministers and heads of State-owned Enterprises in his delegation shared updates on ongoing and planned projects.
