President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to construct 30 housing units in Buruni Island of Thaa Atoll next year.

The announcement was made during a meeting with residents of the island, held as part of the President’s ongoing tour of four atolls. During the meeting, community members shared their concerns and highlighted key issues affecting their daily lives.

President Dr Muizzu noted that many families face difficulties in building homes due to financial constraints. While the government had previously introduced a soft loan scheme to ease the problem, he acknowledged that it had not been possible to extend the opportunity to all citizens at once.

He explained that the Administration would address the housing challenge through various initiatives, including the direct construction of housing units. “Therefore, a project of 30 housing units will be carried out next year based on the opinion of the council and the views of the public,” the President said.

The government aims to expand housing opportunities across the country to ensure affordable and accessible homes for all citizens.
