President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the importance of ensuring a prosperous future for the people of M. Dhiggaru. He made the remarks while addressing the community during his ongoing tour of inhabited islands across four atolls.

As part of the government’s housing initiatives, the President announced that construction of 75 housing units in Dhiggaru will begin this year, with plans to start work on an additional 75 units before the first phase is completed. He noted that relevant authorities are already making the necessary preparations.

Highlighting the need to improve local infrastructure, the President pledged to upgrade Dhiggaru Harbour, with the project scheduled to commence in early 2026. He further stated that to address space constraints at Dhiggaru School, the government would consider funding a new building with a multipurpose hall and nine classrooms in the 2026 budget.

Acknowledging Dhiggaru’s strong reliance on fishing, President Dr Muizzu added that ongoing and future developments in the fisheries sector would significantly strengthen the livelihoods of the island’s fishermen.
