State Electric Company (STELCO) has stated that the power outage in some areas of Hulhumalé Phase 2 around 3:30 AM last night was due to a part of the network feed going offline when some individuals attempted to damage a substation.
In a press release issued today, STELCO said that electricity service was interrupted in some towers of Vinares and Hiyaa, as well as in MPL towers, late last night.
STELCO said that after the power outage at around 3:20 AM, electricity was restored to the area at 4:56 AM.
STELCO said that they have reported the incident to the relevant authorities and are working to bring such incidents to the attention of concerned parties to prevent their recurrence.
"It is our earnest request that information about those who commit such acts, which cause distress to many in the community and are even dangerous to one's own life, be shared with the relevant authorities to stop and prevent the recurrence of such incidents," STELCO stated in their release.
