The first lounge at the new terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA) has been officially opened.
The Koveli Lounge was inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director Ibrahim Mohamed Shareef at a ceremony held in the departure area. The event was attended by MACL’s deputy managing directors, members of the executive committee, senior officials from the ministry, and representatives from airlines.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Saeed highlighted that tourism and Maldivian hospitality are the backbone of the country’s economy. He praised MACL staff for their efforts in developing and maintaining the airport, which plays a vital role in shaping the image of the Maldives.
According to MACL, the Koveli Lounge is located on the second floor of the new terminal and spans 1,230 square metres, with space for up to 270 passengers. The lounge is equipped with modern facilities, including a children’s play area, buffet service, and dedicated spaces for people with special needs and baby care.
The company said the new lounge is designed to offer passengers a comfortable and high-quality travel experience.
