President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated Thaa Ufuriyaa and Kolhufushi as part of Madifushi’s jurisdiction.

The decision, which fulfils a pledge previously made by the President, was formalised through Presidential Decree No. 24/2025. Issued under the Decentralisation Act, the decree grants the President authority to determine the boundaries of city and island councils within administrative areas.

This move is part of the Government’s wider efforts to allocate islands and lagoons to administrative areas to support future development. In line with this policy, Maafaru Lagoon was also recently brought under the jurisdiction of Alifu Alifu Feridhoo.
