The Parliament has announced plans to take action against disruptions to committee proceedings, following incidents during the review of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Bill.

Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim said at the conclusion of the sitting that some individuals who were allowed to attend had obstructed the committee’s work, violated the dignity of Parliament, and disregarded social etiquette.

He confirmed that Parliament had received a report on the matter from Sergeant-at-Arms Tholhath Hassan, which will be forwarded to the General Body of Parliament for review.

“This is to ensure that such incidents do not happen again, and to establish clear guidelines for guests attending Parliament, including the actions to be taken if the rules are violated,” Nazim said.

The Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions passed the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Bill for the first time during the same sitting.
