Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has announced that 588 people who have paid deposits under the previous government’s Gothamveriveriya housing scheme will receive their flats next week.
FDC Managing Director Hamdan Shakeel told One Online today that key handovers will begin on Wednesday. He explained that tenants will be given specific times to complete the process, which includes meter readings and utility checks, before receiving their keys the same day.
Shakeel added that all deposit holders will be handed over their flats by 24 September. Once utilities are connected, tenants can move in at their convenience.
FDC began signing agreements with recipients of the scheme on 21 July 2019. Last week, the corporation said agreements had been signed with more than 3,000 of the 4,000 flats being built, with 3,032 parties finalising their contracts out of 3,088 scheduled.
According to FDC, 90 percent of the flats are now complete, and the units will also be made available to new business owners.
Earlier, at a press conference on 29 June, Minister of Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib said that 1,000 flats had been finished, with utility connections expected in July and all flats to be handed over by the end of September.
