Dhiraagu has successfully hosted the Sea-Me-We 6 Global Consortium Meeting in Malé, bringing together key international stakeholders to discuss the future of the submarine cable project.

The Sea-Me-We 6 (South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 6) submarine cable system is a major infrastructure project designed to improve global connectivity between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe.

Dhiraagu said the system will provide faster internet speeds and high-quality communication services to millions of people. The project will also connect the Maldives to key internet exchange points and data centres in South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, strengthening the country’s digital economy.

Speaking at the event, Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed thanked consortium partners for their support and highlighted the importance of the project. He said the initiative is a high priority for Dhiraagu and will play a key role in the Maldives’ digital transformation and economic growth.

The Sea-Me-We 6 consortium is made up of leading global telecommunications and digital service providers, including Batelco (Bahrain), Bangladesh Submarine Cables Ltd, Bharti Airtel (India), China Unicom, Djibouti Telecom, Microsoft (USA), Mobily (Saudi Arabia), Orange (France), PCCW Global, Singtel (Singapore), Sri Lanka Telecom, Telecom Egypt, Telekom Malaysia, Telin (Indonesia), and Trans World Associates (Pakistan).
