President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has directed that the budget allocation for Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) be doubled.

In a post on X last evening, the President announced two key changes aimed at further empowering WDCs ahead of next year’s budget. The first change increases the allocation from five per cent of council budgets to ten per cent.

The second change ensures that Ramadan allowance for WDC members will now be covered by council budgets, rather than being deducted from the WDC’s own funds.

According to President Dr Muizzu, these measures are part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the role of WDCs in local development.
