Parliament has issued a 15-day notice to five Members of Parliament who failed to file their financial statements by the August 31 deadline, as required under parliamentary rules.
The deadline expired on Sunday, after which the financial statements of those who had submitted were made public. However, five MPs did not submit finacial statements. They are:
- Maafannu North MP Mohamed Nazim (MNP)
- MP Ahmed Zameer (PNC)
- Maafannu West MP Mohamed Mustafa Ibrahim (PNC)
- Kurendhoo MP Mohamed Shamin Habib (PNC)
- Feydhoo North MP Ismail Nizar (PNC)
Parliament’s Information Officer, Ahmed Maan Asad, confirmed that the notices were sent on September 1.
According to parliamentary rules, lawmakers who fail to file their financial statements will face action. Their names will be announced in the House, and they will be barred from attending sittings or committee meetings until they submit the required documents. In addition, a daily deduction will be made from their salary for each day the statements remain outstanding.
