President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé after completing an official visit to the People’s Republic of China, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

During the visit, President Dr Muizzu attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, where he joined world leaders for the “SCO Plus” meeting. He also held bilateral talks with President Xi, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthen cooperation and advance shared interests.

On the sidelines of the summit, the President met with other heads of state and government to enhance diplomatic relations and explore areas of collaboration. Several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding were also signed between the Maldives and China, covering priority sectors to support the Maldives’ development goals.

In addition, President Dr Muizzu attended the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People in the Second World War, alongside other global leaders.

This is President Dr Muizzu’s second visit to China since assuming office in November 2023, underscoring the close and historic ties between the two nations.
