President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Sinamalé Bridge is a proud testament to what true partnership can achieve.

In a post on X today, marking the seventh anniversary of the opening of the Bridge, the President said that the bridge opened new avenues for the Maldives.

"It remains a proud testament to what true partnership can achieve and to the enduring bonds of unity, trust, and prosperity shared between Maldives and China," the President stated.

The Sinamalé Bridge was opened during the presidency of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, with the current President Muizzu, who was then the Minister of Housing, playing a key role in the project.

China provided USD 116 million in grant aid and USD 72 million as a loan for the construction of the Sinamalé Bridge. The government spent USD 12 million on the project.
