President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a special ferry will be introduced for Vaikaradhoo to help farmers transport their produce. The move aims to resolve long-standing problems caused by the current cargo ferry route, which has made it difficult for the island’s farmers to carry goods.
The President also confirmed that Vaikaradhoo’s harbour development has been contracted. The project will feature new facilities, including a swimming area and a fountain for local use.
Plans for sports and recreation include completing the football field, building handball courts and outdoor gyms in the upcoming budget, and starting work on a skate park by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) later this month.
In the education sector, delayed work on 12 classrooms and a multipurpose hall will be completed, with the hall set to open by the next academic year. Meanwhile, Fenaka Corporation will relocate the island’s power plant, which has been a problem for residents for the past 30 years.
Additional projects include the construction of Centre for the Holy Quran branch and a modern mosque within this year’s budget, upgrades to the health centre with more staff in the next year’s budget, and 50 new housing units.
