The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced plans to bring in three dredgers to accelerate land reclamation projects in the Malé area.

According to HDC, land reclamation is currently underway in Hulhumalé Phase 3, Gulhifalhu, Giravarufalhu, and Uthuru Thilafalhu as part of efforts to address the housing shortage - one of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s key election pledges.

To speed up the process, two 45,000-tonne hopper dredgers and one 11,000-tonne hopper dredger will be commissioned in October this year.

HDC added that it is working with relevant stakeholders to anticipate and resolve potential challenges to ensure smooth progress without interruptions.
