State Electric Company (STELCO) has announced a one-hour power outage in Malé and Hulhumalé tomorrow as part of essential work on the 50 MW power plant.

According to a press release issued this evening, the Hulhumalé 50 MW power plant will be switched off between 6:00 am and 10:00 am to carry out major maintenance work. Each area in Malé and Hulhumalé will experience an hour-long power cut during this period, with customers receiving prior notifications via SMS.

STELCO assured that hospitals and other critical service providers will not be affected by the outage. The company added that it will work to complete the maintenance ahead of schedule and restore power as quickly as possible.

This preventive work is important to prepare for any future power supply issues, STELCO said in its statement, while apologising for the inconvenience caused to customers.
