Zakat House has announced a revision to the nisab, or minimum wealth threshold, for Zakat al-Mal in the Maldives.
As of 21 August 2025, the nisab has been set at MVR 11,191.95. The change is based on the Maldives Monetary Authority’s (MMA) latest valuation of silver at MVR 18.81 per gram. Previously, the nisab stood at MVR 9,264.15 since April last year, marking an increase of 20.8 per cent.
Zakat al-Mal, one of the five pillars of Islam, obligates eligible Muslims to contribute 2.5 per cent of their wealth annually to those entitled to receive it. An individual is required to pay zakat if their wealth meets or exceeds the nisab and remains above this threshold for one full year.
