President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Valla, located in Dhaalu Atoll, as part of Kudahuvadhoo to support economic development on the island.
The change was made through Presidential Decree No. 21/2025, under the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 07/2010), using the powers granted to the President under Section 134(a) of the Act.
This move fulfils a pledge made by the President during a meeting with Kudahuvadhoo residents on 5 March 2025, where he promised to allocate Valla Island to boost the island’s economic growth.
With the enactment of the decree, the appendix of Presidential Decree No. 2/2025, which outlines the establishment of inhabited islands in the Maldives, has been updated and published in the Government Gazette.
