President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the new 30-bed health centre in AA. Thoddoo will be upgraded to the level of a hospital. Construction commenced for the project today.
He confirmed that the project design allows for facilities such as operating theatres and intensive care units, ensuring that the centre can function as a fully equipped hospital.
The President made the announcement during his visit to Thoddoo as part of his ongoing tour of the atoll. He added that all efforts have been made to initiate the project and that the advance payment has already been arranged.
Alongside healthcare development, the President stated that preparations have been completed to commence a road construction project on the island. He noted that the project would be carried out in line with community requirements and emphasised its importance for an island with a growing tourism industry.
The President also revealed plans to establish the Faculty of Food and Sciences under the Maldives National University in Thoddoo. With the island’s strong agricultural base, the new faculty is expected to bring both direct and indirect benefits to students and contribute to the island’s wider development.
In addition, scheduled seaplane operations are set to begin next year, further strengthening Thoddoo’s connectivity.
