Parliament has invited public opinion on the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) nominees submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The nominees are Ahmed Magsoom, S. Hulhudhoo; Ameera Naeem of; and Fathimath Nafath Abdul Wahhab, Daftar No. 712. Their names were announced in Parliament and referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Rights and Gender for further review.
The committee has opened the opportunity for the public to submit complaints regarding the nominees until 23rd August. The committee will then hold interviews on 25th August and complete its review by 26th August.
Earlier, President Dr Muizzu had forwarded the names of two candidates for the commission. However, one nominee, Mohamed Faris Thoha, was not cleared due to allegations of domestic violence. As a result, Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood, who met the required criteria, was approved by Parliament yesterday as a new member of the HRCM.
