The General Committee meeting held today to discuss the budget allocation for the People's Majlis for the upcoming year 2026 has been made confidential.

Unlike other institutions, the Majlis budget needs to be approved by submitting it to the General Committee of the Majlis. This process involves the General Committee approving it before it's included in the state budget when it's submitted and passed by the Majlis.

The proposal to make today's General Committee meeting confidential was made by Ibrahim Didi, the member for Feydhoo constituency.

He stated that the Majlis budget issue is not a matter related to the public. Noting that budget matters could be exposed to the media, he proposed to make the committee meeting confidential. The proposal was seconded by Ahmed Riyaz, the member for Thimarafushi constituency.

The committee meeting was then made confidential from that point onwards.
