Three additional names have been sent to the People's Majlis for appointment to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

With the terms of two HRCM members expiring on the 8th of next month, the President had previously sent two names to the Parliament last week after calling for interested parties to apply for the positions.

After one name was approved by the Parliament, Mohamed Faris Toha, H. Sosan, who was the second nominee, did not receive enough votes in the committee due to allegations of domestic violence against him.

Therefore, the President has sent three more names to today's session. These names are:

  • Ahmed Maqsoom, Seabreeze / S. Hulhudhoo
  • Ameera Naeem, H. Buruz
  • Fathimath Nafhathu Abdul Wahhab, Dhaftharu Number DR 712

The Independent Institutions Committee of the Parliament is responsible for interviewing and selecting candidates for these positions.

The current members of HRCM are:

  • President Mariyam Muna
  • Vice President Moomina Waheed
  • Samau Ahmed Najeeb
  • Aminath Shifath Abdulrazzaq
  • Ismail Habeeb Abdulrahman

Yesterday, the Parliament approved Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood, M. Copy, for appointment to the HRCM.
