The Civil Court has returned the excess amount of money that Road Development Corporation (RDC) had deposited for payment to a company called Biz Solutions Private Limited.
The Civil Court had ruled on February 2 this year that RDC should pay MVR 648,000 to Biz Solutions. Claiming that RDC had not paid the amount as per the ruling, Biz Solutions filed another case in the Civil Court seeking enforcement of the judgment.
In the verdict issued yesterday regarding this case, Judge Aishath Azfa Abdulgafoor stated that the Civil Court had ordered RDC to pay MVR 648,000 to Biz Solutions within 15 days.
However, the judge noted that while the case was ongoing, RDC had paid MVR 400,000, as evidenced by receipts submitted to the court.
The judge said that RDC had deposited money from various bank accounts to the court, including amounts in dollars and rufiyaa from Bank of Maldives and Maldives Islamic Bank accounts.
The judge stated that the excess amounts deposited by RDC to the court have been returned to RDC's accounts. She also mentioned that MVR 248,000, the remaining balance of the debt, has been released to Biz Solutions through a voucher sent to the Finance Ministry.
Although Biz Solutions requested MVR 20,000 as court expenses, the judge said this couldn't be granted as it wasn't requested in the initial enforcement application form.
The judge concluded that since RDC has paid the required debt, there was no need to proceed further with the case. She ruled that the judgment has been executed as RDC has paid the amount to Biz Solutions as per the ruling, court expenses cannot be granted, and the case is closed.
