Beond has begun operations from the new passenger Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport (VIA).
This makes Beond the first luxury airline and the third overall airline to operate from Terminal 1.
A special ceremony was held at Terminal 1 today to mark this occasion. The ceremony was graced by Minister of the President's Office, Ali Arif.
The ceremony was attended by MACL board members, MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Lam'aan, Beond's General Manager Ibrahim Ahthar, and Beond's Station Manager Hussain Fayaz.
MACL said that during today's ceremony, Beond's check-in counters were officially opened, and gifts were presented to 43 passengers departing on Beond. A special water salute was given to Beond's first aircraft, B4091, to arrive at Terminal 1, and 35 passengers arriving on that flight were warmly welcomed with cultural activities.
Beond is a luxury airline created through a partnership between Maldives' SIMDI Group and Arabeks, an investment company founded by experienced aviation professionals. The airline aims to provide high-end air travel services targeting the luxury tourism market.
Terminal 1 is currently serving the national airline Maldivian and UAE's low-cost carrier Air Arabia. Four more airlines are scheduled to move to Terminal 1 this month.
MACL's goal is to provide the highest quality service to all airlines operating to the Maldives through Terminal 1 as soon as possible.
