President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned the Israeli government’s recent announcement of its so-called “Greater Israel” vision, declaring it a violation of international law and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

The condemnation followed remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who told the i24 news channel on Tuesday that the concept of “Greater Israel” was deeply rooted in his political vision and part of a “historic and spiritual mission”. The term refers to the expansion of Israel’s territory to include the West Bank, Gaza, and Syria’s Golan Heights.

In a post on X, President Dr Muizzu described such statements as contrary to international law, stressing that they undermine the Palestinian people’s right to decide their own future. He urged the international community to take immediate, collective action to safeguard Palestinian rights and to end the suffering endured during the ongoing conflict.

The President reiterated the Maldives’ longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, affirming the country’s commitment to all efforts aimed at achieving a fair, comprehensive, and lasting peace.
